#2 on the list of revamped original super heroes is Vibe. Previously he was a young adult of mixed ethnicity but has dominantly European features. I imagined his hair slightly resembling the style of Cloud Strife ::LEFT::As a female character, Vibe probaly looks something like Ellen DeGeneres or Sharon Stone... a female with a really stylish short blonde do lol. but that's all particular.
Changing Vibe to a female again opens up a lot of new ground for me. I did consider keeping the name Vibe, but then I thought about other names like Cadense or Harmony. I'm looking into the Greek Muses now to see about the musical and lyrical Muses for identity inspiration too.
The biggest opportunity I see now is to tap this musical industrialist/engineer anlge I have had in mind for a while. It is probably the biggest reason I would have for rewriting Vibe as a female character.
See I like for example, Tony Stark, and his ingenuity machine-wise. But I don't think we have read this or seen this in a woman character before. Machines are awesome sure, and it would be easy to just write a woman like Marvel's Tony Stark and make her make incredible machines and be the jealousy of other industrialists the world over. But then I considered the musical angle and that's when it hit me. Just as technology bombards us with iPhones and MP3s and stuff, music does the same thing with new sounds, artists, concepts and mediums everyday too!
People everywhere are looking for the next big thing, the next big star, song or musical device. Music can sometimes be just as industrial and opportunistic as manufacuring new machines.
And even though music is unisexual, we all know many female musicians and the impact they have on culture: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rhianna, Nicki Minaj... even Willow Smith! They set trends, inspire dances and costumes and plain inspire, wow and/or intimidate with their ambitions. So I think Vibe, as a woman and with more of a musical background, could really turn out nice so long as I follow this direction.
Like Patrice Rushen and others, Vibe was a child prodigy in the area of music. I imagined her being talented in various instruments and a quick study in diverse musical theories. So when she grows up she would a well respected and sought after musical composer, a lot like Quincey Jones also. But at some point in her youth she discovers she has powers.
So Vibe would struggle with balancing a life in music and a life where she crosses paths with unique people with similar powers and experiences. I feel strongly about writing Vibe as a female now with this direction in mind. Again it doesn't hang on the hero being a female to be in music but to me it feels very relatable and could be very interesting to read if I did it right.
I am very interested in the possibility of treating her musical discoveries a lot like the discoveries Iron Man makes in weapons and energy. I am not entirely sure on how to do that or how the context would fit or be altered in this comic but I want to try and see where the adventure takes her.
As always this is a work in progress. A lot of this may sound really whack, truth be told. But I am all about the process, and feeling out every corner of this character as best and honestly as I can.
Ok and that's the skinny on Hero Revamp #2. #3 will be here soon.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all the bloggers out there.
