Welcome to Heartbreak.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynfOc020y1s

This is a beautiful video by K. West. My favorite videos by him thus far that truly showcase his artistic abilities are "Stronger", "Welcome to the Good Life", "Good Morning", "You Can't Tell Me Nothin'", and now, the beautifully made and recent "Welcome to Heartbreak".

Let me just say I didn't always like Kanye, I thought he was whatev really, I mean I didn't grow up listening to much secular, better yet Rap music; I thought "Jesus Walks" was a cool song (till they outplayed it :-/) tho lol.

But over the past year I have grown to like his sound, and most def his artistic eye.

I love his use of color in most videos, or his animated videos such as "Welcome to Heartbreak", but his imagination is great. I ask myself sometimes, "Why doen't this dude direct animated films... or redefine them?!" Maybe that's his next venture, after his clothing line, hopefully.

Man there is so much I want to say about his art and this video, but I can't... I guess cuz it soeaks for itself, check it out and enjoy.

PS: Next time I will be more detailed in my commentaries, now go watch the video, or comment on this blog.

Peace!

The making of "Serlyng and the Courtier".

Copied from facebook:

The Courtier-Spirit

I drew this last year before I even wrote the previous manga script I posted, it was ata time when I sorta getting back into art in a sense, I was basically doodling a lot. Out of him came the story. I haven't completed it but I might soon; that's what his mask looks like and his uniform. His attire is cool to me because he "looks" like a good guy, what with all of the religious seals and crosses and everything so it makes everything he says and does seem credible, in all honesty.

He represents basically the false image ppl stamp onto God in their lives everyday, I know I've done it too. We bully and pressure ourselves into thinking we HAVE to be busy for God or that to get his love and apporval we have to dedicate our talents to him the way the orthodox/organized church says we should, but alas, God's ways are higher than our ways. Sometimes we fall short of the target. Sometime God's imagination is much much bigger than ours =).

I got the name Courtier from reading Hamlet last year so he's really inspired by Hamlet's usurping uncle. But as a courtier all one can do in the position is serve the king... and serve, and serve, and serve... get the picture? Unlike Hamlet who can freely attain the throne by simply being the king's son. So Serlyng is based off of Hamlet, as he trusts God in his life he functions as a free man but the courtier can't be anything but a servant: the son of the king (Serlyng) can serve and achieve something more.

So the Courtier-Spirit character is only doing what he knows how to do whcich is to serve, only he can't believe in true Rest in God because he doesn't have a real relationship with him, and really he's a demonic character anyway feigning alligience to Christ, which is what this is all about anyway. Things in life claim to be from God, even in religion and Christianity but do they line up with the life-giving promises and character God shows us if we let him?

I think ppl should spend more time with God rather than doing things for him, or doing things that make them feel aliented from others. God is all about people, shouldn't we follow his example? I'm just so glad I stuck it out with him other wise I wouldn't have realized he really was trying to get to know me better thru this expericne and the writing and events from last year.

End of Copy.

NOW:

I just finished posting that on facebook a few minutes ago; I still really like the picture of the Courtier.

I should meniton that I named Serlyng after Rod Serling, the creator of the original Twilight Zone tv show, my college anthropology class watched an episode last year and I thought both he and his show were very interesting. I really just liked how Rod was different with his view of society and cultural norms and how creative he was in conveying provaocative messages to others around him. His artistic is what influenced me in writing the story.

Lastly, I hope this is the first of a few more short stories to come, if so they will be under the name CUlture, thanks to previously stated inspirations and what I feel the gospel of Jesus is all about: a culture of believers who's defining trait is a lifestyle that is dependent on God and who's dependence produces success, even affecting the success of other, religious and non alike. A lifestyle where all you have to be is a son of God and live freely like Hamlet and not a life beat down and allowed to think that that is all God has planned for you.

There's gotta be more to a loving God than what traditional church and religion has shown society in the past, but maybe there is another tradition God has been trying to imprint on the lives of the ones he calls "the apple of his eye". Like it says in the Bible, relationship with Christ is easy and his burden is light.
